Last month, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) released a "Vital Signs" report on walking. We are making that our Friday Link today and hope you will think about supporting walking as THE priority in your community.
The report says, "More people are walking but most do not get enough physical activity." And it then goes on to list ways you can support walking in your community.
The Walking Bostonian created a great outline of what priorities in the city are vs what they should be in this post: Getting our priorities straight.
We agree! And, hope that groups like Livable Streets will jump off their bikes for awhile and put more of their efforts into promoting walking as the most important and most desirable transportation option.
Where to start? Walk Boston is one group that puts walkers first and deserves your support. Send a note, email, or call to tell your local representatives that you want walkers to be their number one priority. Since there is no "industry" lobbying group out to make money on walking (like there is for bikes and cars) it has to be a grassroots effort!
Thanks to everyone who hops over to Amazon from here to do their shopping. We appreciate your support. It doesn't cost you any more but they put a few coins in our tip jar.
One of our readers left a comment about the Fitbit Wireless Activity/Sleep Tracker. Here it is.
