Peppers of many varieties and degrees of heat are popping up at local farms. We discovered this variety called "Yummy" at the Atlas Farm stand at the Copley Farmers' Market. (Tuesdays & Fridays 11am -6pm)
Over at Bonnie Plants, they have a perfect description of this little pepper, "You will love this snack-sized petite sweet pepper that is nearly seedless. It ripens from green to yellow to a pretty apricot-orange or red. This is a very sweet flavorful pepper that often converts those folks who say, 'no thanks, I don't like peppers.'"
Since they are little guys, and there is some truth to the saying, "the smaller the pepper the hotter it is," the Atlas crew was smart and had some sliced for taste-testing.
That made me grab a bagful of these tasty little veggies. They're a perfect garnish or a nice splash of sweetness and color when added to a salad. I can't wait to try roasting some!
When we had a fireplace, we used to grill peppers on a grill like this one, right over the glowing embers. It can be used on conventional grills, in fire pits, camp fires, or fireplaces.
