While out for a walk this past weekend, we needed a destination, and decided to go looking for Moby Dick– the restaurant. It’s on Huntington, between Mass Ave and Gainsborough St., just down from Symphony Hall.
Stepping inside, we were immediately caressed by the aromas of the open kitchen and instantly felt at home. The only problem? We wanted everything listed on the menu board! (Notice that vegetarian list.)
Their website touts “homemade, organic, fresh” Persian food, and we agree.
We were mesmerized by the Albaloo Polo– basmati rice with saffron, sautéed sour cherries and chicken. Penny described the dish best as, “incredibly seasoned with an undertone of sweetness without being overdone.” It was nicely balanced.
I added the Lamb Stew over rice that featured tasty chunks of fall-apart, tender lamb. We also tried the Mirza Ghasemi– sautéed eggplant, tomatoes, onions, and a good hit of garlic.
It was very intense, and I think best when added in measured amounts. This Chowhound review described it as “souped-up baba ghanoush.”
We ordered take-away and spread the enjoyment of our Moby Dick find over a couple of days. Thank you to our friend Francine Crawford from the Garden Club of the Back Bay who suggested we try this gem– dont’ know what took us so long.
