I spotted her parked next to the Boston Public Library on Boylston Street. She was obviously new in town, so I stopped to get acquainted. Her body art said it all, Fiat 500! But, she goes by the name of Francesca.
It’s one of those things you learn if you hang around long enough taking photos, and the owner shows up. He had just taken delivery of the car and was eager to show her off. And, as a former Smart Car owner, he was used to gawkers.
While I hadn’t set out this weekend expecting to find another unusual car to talk about, let alone another Italian designed mark, this diminutive 3-door transport has been turning heads. Francesca is the first of many U.S. models a Chrysler/Fiat partnership hopes to see on U.S. roads.
Not unlike the Mini, this is Fiat’s retro version of its hugely popular Fiat 500 of the 1950s, 60s, and 70s. This cute, little, economical, and perfect city car is getting rave reviews and soon is expected to bring us an open-top version– can’t wait. Ciao, Francesca!
