Is it time for Thanksgiving already? With the hours ticking down to the big day, all sorts of plans are finally coming together– a deadline is such a great motivator.
While Penny and I are still finalizing food options, our Thanksgiving wine is already in the rack, picking up a few days of extra ageing. It’s a special pinot noir– a varietal that’s become something of a Thanksgiving tradition around our house.
This year we found the 2006 Reserve Pinot Noir from the folks at Argyle– one of our favorite producers. We’ve been gobsmacked with this winery since trying a magnum of Argyle Brut a few New Years ago.
Since we’ve never ventured into Argyle’s pure pinot acreage, there’s definitely some anticipation, but also a certain expectation of what we’ll be tasting. Yes, there are bottle notes that describe a “balance between grace and concentration,” and “Argyle’s signature ‘silky texture.’” But, we wanted more.
So, we contacted the Oregon winemaker himself, Rollin Soles– who had sent us a thank you this past summer, after a BostonZest post about his Argyle Brut. Who better to describe this pinot?
He called the 2006 “a ‘goldilocks’ vintage for Argyle,” the result of a “fantastic growing season that was ‘not too hot and not too cold, but just right.’” Rolliin continued to tempt us with, “juicy centered...fresh fruited...complex, yet mouthfilling rich.”
“Enough!” I thought. “Let’s just celebrate Thanksgiving, today– right now!” (Wait, what was I saying?) I quickly regained my sanity, if only temporarily.
As the countdown to the big day continues, happy Thanksgiving "planning" from BostonZest! We’ll share our own Argyle pinot noir tasting notes, soon.
And, tomorrow we'll share a very popular column Penny did about the alternative of cider for your holiday table.
