Want a low cost Valentine outing in Boston this weekend? We sipped great hot chocolate from Beacon Hill Chocolates and watched the skaters on the Frog Pond Skating Rink on the Boston Common this week. This is a great way to celebrate for Valentines of all ages.
Our first stop was the chocolate shop. They've been around since 2006 and are now right on Charles Street. Here you'll find a shop full of delicious gifts for all the Valentines in your life. From hot chocolate mixes to truffles, you can pick what you like to fill a colorful and nostalgic keepsake box. Or, you can choose a piece or two to nibble out-of-hand as a reward for any and every small success.
When we were little kids, Valentine's Day was a time to celebrate friendships. In that spirit, we called our friend Linda Cox and asked her to join our impromptu, hot chocolate break. Linda chose the straight forward chocolate version of the brew; we shared a cup in a spicy Mexican style. Both were declared delicious.
We wandered down to the Frog Pond to stand in the sun and watch the skaters, while we enjoyed our beverages.
Out on the ice, we saw hand-holding by couples gliding securely around the rink and friends lending support to new skaters as they made their first attempts. Whether you want to sit on one of the benches overlooking the skating or get out there and try it yourself, this is a Valentine weekend activity we recommend. And, you can do it with any special person in your life!
