Tomorrow the Winter Farmers' Market opens at Russell's Garden Center in Wayland MA. Right about now, we're all missing our Farmers' Markets and the friends from the farming community that we made over the warmer months.
Market Manager, Peg Mallett tells the story of how this market happened,
"Last October, on the final day of our Wayland Farmers' Market, we said goodbye to our loyal shoppers, with promises to reunite in June. Many of them shared the dream of having locally grown and produced food available year round.
In early November, someone again mentioned the possibility of having a Winter Market. Charged with the task of seeing if we could find farmers with an ample supply of root vegetables or farmers that were actively growing lettuces, greens and herbs, I found a handful who had prepared for the cold months ahead."
Peg also found specialty food vendors, who were happy to have a winter venue. The list of vendors is here.
And, thanks to the blog, Feed Me Like You Mean It , we remembered that there's a source for all the local winter market information here.
Use the nice weather as an excuse to make tomorrow a day to get out of the city, meet up with old friends, and support fresh and local food.
