Yesterday we took our first walk to the new Central Bottle in Central Square Cambridge. After one visit, we're certain this will be the first of many strolls down Massachusetts Avenue to shop for wine, cheese, bread, salumi and larder items.
Nick Zappia and his wife Liz Vilardi of The Blue Room are two of the four partners in this exciting new enterprise. Nick was one of our first friends in the Boston restaurant scene. We enjoyed hundreds of meals at the Blue Room over the years and have always felt warmed by his hospitality and impressed by his management skills.
The other couple in the partnership, Maureen and Dave Rubino bring their own strengths to the mix. Maureen took care of us yesterday, helping us put together a lovely meal of Twig Farm cheese, porcini & barbera salame and a very fresh Iggy's baguette. Each element was superb.
The wine selection is what you would expect from this group. It's a well curated list, filled with selections you often find only in restaurants. We bought both the bottles they were sampling yesterday and picked up a favorite Barbera that we had enjoyed at the Blue Room.
Be sure to click over and explore the Central Bottle website. The photography is mouthwatering, the writing is vibrant and the schedule of events will have you saving dates on your calendar.
We'll tell you more as we try different aspects of what they promise in the months ahead.
