When Serious Eats began their new "Meet Your Farmer" series, I wanted the first Massachusetts farmer to be from Allandale Farm, because it's the last working farm in Boston.
You'll learn a bit about John Lee from Allandale Farm in a piece we did together for Serious Eats. Click here for a direct link to John's thoughts on farming and the future of good food.
I met John at a local food lovers Tweetup organized by Lauren Klatsky from Whole Foods in Brighton. His deep knowledge of the issues of local, sustainable food and his support for local specialty food producers impressed me.
Allandale's Farmstand offers far more than the food from their land. You'll find a full case of cheese including many local selections, bread from Clear Flour Bakery, local honey, and fruit from other local farms.
And, of course Allandale is also know for its nursery. They sell annuals, perennials, herbs and garden supplies.
John did a wonderful job answering the questions and was a real sport about doing a photo shoot with the temperature in the high 90s. Thank you John.
Tomorrow, we'll tell you about an upcoming event to benefit local farmers that will be held on Sunday at Allandale.
