One of the sunny days last week saw us at Toro for lunch. Opting for lunch instead of dinner at popular, pricey restaurants is another way to save money while enjoying the best.
We began our afternoon by sharing a lovely tapa, Escalivada Catalana - Marinated wood roasted eggplant, onions, peppers, and tomatoes with sherry vinegar and olive oil.
Followed by sandwiches or bocadillos.
Ed ordered the Tortilla - it combined two of our favorite Spanish dishes- grilled bread rubbed with tomato and the traditional Spanish potato and egg tortilla. A light, fresh alioli was the perfect finishing touch.
I couldn't resist the Chorizo Sloppy Joe made with chorizo, caramelized onions, eggplant escalivada. It was perfectly delicious right to the last bite when the sauce had soaked into the center of the bread, but the crisp crust still held its own.
A bit more wine and a bit of ham
In the lovely, leisurely lunch tradition of getting something to finish our wine and more wine to finish the something, we added a serving of Jamon Serrano Redondo Iglesias.
The Toro wine list is good and very food friendly. Our bartender had good wine knowledge and she took excellent care of us throughout the meal.
And, for everyone who will ask, the grilled corn is on the lunch menu

If Toro inspires you to try Spanish at home, here's my favorite Spanish Cookbook.
It is also a good read on Spanish food.
