Over the weekend, we had a quiet celebration of Saint Patrick's Day with friends. Our first stop was for an Irish Breakfast at the Squealing Pig in Mission Hill.
Irish Breakfast
Their version of this traditional "fry-up" is a plate filled with bacon rashers, sausage, fried eggs, white pudding, black pudding, fried tomato, crispy potatoes and toast with a slab of good butter! It was a day's worth of food for me. We wanted to try the shepherd's pie and burgers and still save room for a Mars Bar Toastie, so we all shared an Irish breakfast as an appetizer!
That Irish Mars Bar Toastie is built of two Belgian waffles, filled with an Irish Mars bar, bananas, and topped with slightly sweetened freshly whipped cream and strawberries.
This is comfort food for those of us who grew up with Irish relatives and spent some of our childhood in Irish bars and pubs. A must to indulge in occasionally.
Mickey's Take On It
We count on BostonZest contributor, Mickey Timony to guide us to the best Irish culture in the area. Thanks Mick! He introduced us to the Squealing Pig. Here's a bit of a review he wrote on it.
Recently he's given his stamp of approval to the Druid in Somerville too! (Correction- The Druid is in Cambridge's Inman Square.) We'll get there soon and give you a second spot to enjoy good Irish fare.
