The First Annual Boston Food Truck Festival was a screaming success. Sunday, August 8, 2010 may be the date we mark as the tipping point for the Boston Food Truck scene. Thanks to Christine Liu, SoWa Sundays, CItySearch and all the people who worked so hard to make it happen. Here's what we saw!
Lines, lines everywhere were lines... But, everyone was smiling, polite, chatting, and patient.
Chef Greg Gale of Boston Speeds Hot Dog Wagon had a happy smile as he refilled the grill with hardwood charcoal.
The grill was full, and the grillmaster's view was of faces waiting in the sun.
This is what the line for Speed's Hot Dogs looked like every time we checked it. (Thanks to Greg and the Speed's team for letting me take this shot from their window.) The poster BroadwayBound over on Boston's Chowhound Board commended Speeds and the Sausage Guy for being well prepared for the crowds.
There were also food carts like this one from Taza Chocolate.
Boston Mayor Thomas Menino was on the scene. Here he was tasting a Grillo's Pickle.
Was the waiting worth it? This crew, enjoying their first ever Speed Dogs, gave us a resounding "YES!"
Here's a link to more photos and conversation on Universal Hub.
And, here's more coverage on Serious Eats where they'd love to hear from some of those who attended.
