The Copley Square Farmers' Market opened for the season today. Longtime Market Manager, Lee Piper was on hand to make the first walk through and announce, "The Market is OPEN!"
We bought some very early strawberries as a part of our CSA share at Atlas Farm. Atlas runs a market share that lets you prepay for what you buy at the Copley Market. (A $90 share buys $100 in product at the market, a $250 share is worth $300, and a $500 share buys $600.) In addition CSA member specials are posted at the market throughout the season.
Following a tradition, we took the strawberries to the courtyard at the Copley Square Boston Public Library and enjoyed them with our lunch.
Naragansett Creamery's "Market Mama" Pattie Federico was busy meeting new customers and passing out samples of their exquisive cheeses. We bought a round of their Queso Fresco. Penny recently heard an interview with Narranansett's Louella Hill on Cutting the Curd, Her dream came true when she found a place to make her cheese. Here's a link to that interview.
We think this creamery will be a great additon to the Market. They'll be on hand Tuesdays. (We heard that we may have one more Cheese maker at the market before long.)
It was good to catch up with old friends like Kate Stillman from Stillman's at the Turkey Farm. As you can see from her helper's laughter, Kate is as funny as ever. She's also a great spokesperson for the farming community. Ed recorded Kate for the first of a series of interviews we'll be doing with area farmers.
Keep the farmers' market news flowing by supporting BostonZest when you shop on Amazon. Just begin each visit to Amazon from this site, and we'll be paid a commission on what you buy. It won't cost you more, but it will keep information coming your way.
