And, the good news is there's no need to search for a reason to cheer the arrival of April. "Here's to the return of Sunshine!" And, may that mood-changing ball of fire take many, many more bows in the weeks ahead.
This time we're popping-off the month with an old favorite from New Mexico, Gruet's "Blanc De Noirs" Brut.
The winery has been around for years and has expanded its selection since our first sips in the mid 1990s. We were originally tipped-off to this Albuquerque gem by Howie Rubin at Bauer Wines and, in fact, grabbed a couple of bottles from him, last week.
This sparkling wine embraces its pinot noir in a balanced way with a creamy frothiness. There's a crisp, appley flavor that highlights its fruit and actually rivals several of the more costly champagnes that we've enjoyed. (I predict a head-to-head blind tasting in our near future.)
We like Gruet so much, there's a bottle of their Rose Brut waiting in the wings – I hear it might be a Summer-Weather-Weekend. Rose on the Roofdeck? Can't Wait!
