Another month, another sparkler and our New Year's resolution to drink more sparkling wine, remains in tact. We're working hard to keep our promise, really, even doing research between bottles.
March begins with Spanish flair. Mont Marcal Cava was featured at a recent Bauer wine tasting. It was so good, we scooped up 4-bottles.
It has great balance, just the right amount of fruit, and is meant to be drunk young (no problem around here).
At the tasting, Don Ackerman from Classical Wines of Spain, emphasized that this cava is "disgorged upon order." We like it with food and just by itself. It's a blend of Chardonnay, Macabeo, Parellada and Xarel-lo. The Mont Marcal Cava 2006 brut is now $14.99 at Bauer Wines.

Here's a great conversation over on Chowhound about low-cost, high-value sparkling wines.
Do you love having a suitable soundtrack for food and wine? A few years ago we had the pleasure of hearing the great classical guitarist, John Williams, at Jordan Hall. His recordings of Spanish guitar Favorites are our background sound for an evening of Spanish cuisine. Mixed in on this play list is the work of Julian Bream. And, of course, a few selections from Andrés Segovia.
