Restaurants, bars: Open
Convenience stores: Open
Supermarkets: Open
Retail stores: Are allowed to open if the owners choose
Liquor stores: Open
City, Town, State and Federal offices and facilities are closed: This includes Schools, Libraries and the Postal Service (express mail will be delivered). Only emergency services are available.
Financial Services: As the British would say, this is a Bank Holiday with both Banks and the stock markets in the United State closed. Some international markets are open.
Boston Parking: You don't have to feed the meters. Other parking rules apply.

Boston Trash Collection:
- Regular pick up in Back Bay, Beacon Hill, Charlestown, South Boston
Chinatown, Fort Hill, Financial/Leather, North End, Roxbury/Mission Hill and South End. - One day delay in Allston/Brighton, Dorchester, East Boston, Hyde Park, Mattapan, Roslindale, West Roxbury
- And finally, sections of Jamaica Plain that have trash collection 2 times per week will have no delay, regular trash & recycling schedule. If your trash & recycling is collected one day a week in Jamaica Plain, trash and recycling is delayed a day

MBTA:
The MBTA announced its service schedule for Labor Day, Monday, September 7, 2009 as:
- All subway trains, streetcars, buses, trackless trolleys, and commuter rail trains will run on a Sunday schedule.
- The Long Wharf to Charlestown Navy Yard water shuttle will operate on a Sunday schedule.
- The Quincy commuter boat to Long Wharf and Logan Airport will operate on a Sunday schedule.
- The Hingham and Hull commuter boat services will not operate.
- THE RIDE will run on a Sunday Schedule.
