The Newton Farmers' Market at Cold Spring Park was the subject of my "Market Scene" report on Serious Eats this week. Chick here for the full report.
This is the home market for BostonZest contributor "kellybean." We met up and she introduced me to her Farmers' market. It was great fun!
Old Friends Farm is at this market on Tuesdays. Sometime in late August or early September they will have fresh, organic, local ginger that they grow in unheated greenhouses during the summer months.
Crystal Brook Farm was offering samples of their goat cheeses. Kellybean bough the herb and garlic selection to top a salad and I picked up my favorite ginger variety to serve with fruit. (Have you guessed the I'm a ginger addict?)
Thanks to Kellybean for her company and for serving as my guide.
A big thank you to Market Master, Judy Dore for all the great information she provided about the Newton Market.
Finally, from all lovers of fresh and local, thanks to the City of Newton. This is one of a small handful of Farmers Markets in Massachusetts that is sponsored by a city or town.
