The sight of this ailing elm tree saddened our morning dog walk today. This tree at the intersection of Massachusetts and Commonwealth Avenues was tested for Dutch Elm Disease last year. At that time, the fungus was not found and a limb was trimmed.
You can become part of the team of volunteers who keep watch on elm trees throughout the city. Last year BostonZest ran a piece that explained how to identify elm trees, recognize Dutch Elm Disease symptoms and report the ailing tree to someone who can help.
Here's the link to that article:

Fortunately, a tree contractor employed by the Friends of the Public Garden was working on the Commonwealth Avenue Mall this morning. He was checking all the elms for signs of distress and disease. He'll test this tree again and make a recommendation for treating what he finds.
