Boston may no longer have Drive-in theaters, but we still have a tradition of summer movies under the stars.
This week Films at the Gate announced their schedule - Thursday to Sunday, August 27-30, 2009. They say, "For four nights this August, for the fourth year in a row, a vacant lot near Boston’s Chinatown Gate will become a free, outdoor theater, showing Kung-Fu and classic Chinese-language films under the stars."
Event producer, Sam Davol is excited about this year's series. "I love working on Films at the Gate and watching how it lights up the neighborhood at night. We're looking to support local businesses and make this area of downtown Boston a walking destination at night, so we always encourage people to grab take-out nearby and bring it to the movies!"

Until August, you can enjoy movies and a picnic at three other venues around town.
Free Friday Flicks at the Hatch Shell
The information page over at WBZ says, "Free Friday Flicks have become a treasured summertime tradition for New England families, people of all ages gather at the banks of the Charles River with their own chairs, blankets, and picnics to enjoy these FREE movies under the summer sky."
Movies by Moonlight Series
The Boston Harbor Hotel is sponsoring a Movies by Moonlight Series from June 19th to September 4th, 2009. You can enjoy the films from the terrace tables at the Sea Grill or you can borrow a cushion and sit on the steps outside.
"Not Your Average Night Out" Movie Series
The Prudential Center's South Garden is the site of a Movie series at 6 pm on Thursday's in June. Sponsored by the Shops at the Prudential Bring your picnic or pick up something at one of the eateries in the complex.

I've lived in Boston my whole life and have never done the outdoor movie thing. I think that will have to change this year! Thanks for the details :)
