Bostonians who are age 65 plus or disabled may purchase coupons from the city that halve the cost of taxi rides. This is especially helpful on a rainy day like today. And, it's perfect for those times when you need to reach somewhere that is not easily accessible by public transit.
The Senior Citizens Taxi Discount Coupon program allows each qualified person to purchase up to two books of coupons per month. Each book contains $10 worth of coupons and costs $5. The coupons do not expire. Proper ID is required, and this is a cash only transaction.
"Taxi coupons may be purchased in the office of the Commission on Affairs of the Elderly in Boston City Hall, Room 271. The taxi coupons may also be purchased through the Taxi Coupon Coordinator, who maintains regularly scheduled visits to local senior centers, housing complexes and senior club meetings. The Community Service Advocates also sell coupon books to homebound seniors. Elders may purchase taxi coupon books worth $10.00 at a cost of $5.00. All Boston licensed taxi drivers are mandated to accept the coupons."
