This awning is at 12-14 Commonwealth Avenue. Built in 1929, G. N. Jacobs designed this structure as a 40-unit apartment building. Awnings are generally not recommended for buildings in the Back Bay Residential District because they can hide the details of a doorway. Exceptions have been made for large apartment buildings, like this one, where they can be "quite effective."
