Many businesses close early on Christmas Eve as well. Call before you leave if you plan to visit a business on the 24th

Restaurants, bars: Some will be open- check for special hours and menus (Watch for a BostonZest entry on restaurants tomorrow)
Convenience stores: some are open, check for special hours
Supermarkets: Closed due to Massachusetts "Blue Laws"
Retail stores: Closed due to Massachusetts "Blue Laws"
Liquor stores: Closed due to Massachusetts "Blue Laws"
City, Town, State and Federal offices and facilities are closed: This includes Schools, Libraries and the Postal Service. Only emergency services are available.
Financial Services: As the British would say, this is a Bank Holiday with both Banks and the stock markets in the United State closed. Some international markets are open.
Boston Parking: You don't have to feed the meters. Other parking rules apply.
Boston Trash Collection: The announcement from Public Works spans the dates 12/25/08-12/27/08
Thursday 12/25/08 pick up will be omitted in Back Bay, Roxbury/Mission Hill and Jamaica Plain
Routine pick ups with no delay in Beacon Hill, Charlestown, Chinatown, Fort Hill, Financial/Leather, North End, and South End
Thursday and Friday collections in the following areas delayed one day: South Boston, Allston/Brighton, Dorchester, East Boston, Hyde Park, Mattapan, Roslindale, West Roxbury
And finally, Sections of Jamaica Plain that have trash collection On Monday & Thursday, regular
schedule on Monday, however Thursday collection is omitted. If your trash & recycling
is collected one day a week in Jamaica Plain, trash and recycling is delayed a day

MBTA Christmas Schedules: To accommodate customers traveling to and from Logan Airport, Silver Line service will be enhanced on Thursday, December 18, Friday, December 19, and Monday, December 22. Logan-bound Silver Line vehicles will depart from South Station every eight (8) minutes between 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. each day. The one-way fare with a CharlieCard is just $1.70. In addition, schedule adjustments to Worcester Commuter Rail service will be made to accommodate customers departing Boston early on Wednesday, December 24.

- To ensure prompt and convenient service to and from Logan Airport, the Silver, Red, Orange, Blue and Green lines will operate with additional service during peak travel periods.
- Buses will operate on a regular weekday schedule.
- The MBTA’s Paratransit service – THE RIDE will operate on a regular weekday service schedule.
Commuter Rail
Commuter rail trains will operate on a normal weekday schedule.
Commuter Boat
- All Inner Harbor Ferry will operate a normal weekday schedule
- Hingham Commuter Boat service: The 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. departures from Rowes Wharf to Hingham will be substituted with departures at 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. The last boat departing Rowes Wharf will be at 7:00 p.m.
- Quincy and Hull Commuter Boat service to Logan Airport and Long Wharf : The 5:30 p.m. departure from the Aquarium dock will be substituted with a 2:00 p.m. departure making stops at Hull and Quincy. The last boat departing the MBTA dock at Long Wharf will be at 6:45 p.m. making stops at Logan, Hull and Quincy. There will be two additional trips to Logan and Hull, departing Boston at 11:10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. The last boat departing the MBTA dock at Long Wharf will be at 6:45 p.m. making stops in Hull and Quincy.
Thursday, December 25th
- Blue, Orange, Green and Red Line trains will operate on a Sunday schedule.
- Buses and trackless trolleys will operate on a Sunday schedule.
- Commuter rail trains will operate on a Sunday schedule. Please Note: Fairmount Line, Needham Line, and Stoughton Line will not operate.
- All Inner Harbor Ferry and Commuter Boat services will not operate.
- THE RIDE will operate on a Sunday schedule.
