Florida Pomelos At Costco

IMG_8064 - Version 2 Today was stock up day at Costco, thanks to a friend who shares her trips there with car-free neighbors. Thank you Liz!

My special treat from the trip was a bag of pomelos.  I enjoyed one as soon as I put my purchases away.

The Costco pomelos are from Florida. They're sweet, juicy, and full of citrus refreshment. I love the way the little pieces inside each segment burst in your mouth as they release their juice.

These were a good example of what is often said about selecting fruit –they were heavy for their size. And, as I had learned about a good pomelo, you could feel the moisture of their oil on the rind.

Some of what I know about selecting fruit and vegetables, I learned from Russ Parson's book, "How to Pick A Peach." It would make a great gift for anyone who wants to begin eating well on their own.

If you live in a small place, it's a good idea to go to Costco with friends. We often split up big packs of items. This is especially true in the produce department, where we'll run around asking, "Do you need limes?" "Want to split a flat of pears?"

Here's a previous article we ran on our first experience with pomelos.
