In October and November neighbors meeting me walking back from the farmers' market, often express surprise that the markets are still open.
As, the sign in front of Siena Farm said today,
"Post-frost veggies are the sweetest of the season!" "But, our late-summer crops are still going strong."
Yes, there may be fewer stands but this may give you the opportunity to visit some of the prepared foods or craftspeople who round out the mix at these events.
Before these hardworking artisans are gone, consider buying some unique holiday gifts.
On the Federation of Farm website they say,
Get everything you need for your fall menu at your local farmers market. From the last of the corn and tomatoes...which there is still plenty of...to locally raised meat, local farmstead cheese, made from cow's milk and goat's milk, fresh local breads and baked goodies, many varieties of winter squash, potatoes, carrots, onions, greens, herbs and of course, apples, pears, and apple cider! You can even get beautiful MUMS, in many colors, for your front steps! Visit our website to find a market near you! "
Check on your local market and you may find that they plan to come to a spot near you until almost Thanksgiving.
