"Meet me at the courtyard" sounds far more interesting than "Meet at the library."
But, in this case it's the same thing. The Copley Square branch of the Boston Public Library has a beautiful courtyard. It's great place to meet a friend for quiet conversation in a relaxed atmosphere.
Students and writers (like me) use it as work space. If you have a library card and a pin number you have free WiFi throughout the library including the courtyard.
Sometimes it's a place to meet for a lovely concert. This summer the library ran a series of Friday afternoon concerts that were a great way to ease into the weekend.
A conversation on Chowhound.com's Boston board was recommending places and dining not to be missed in Boston. I suggested a break to regroup, relax, and research the next move at the courtyard.
I was happy to see someone second my suggestion, and not surprised to learn that other folks didn't know about it. It is, as someone said, one of the best-kept secrets in Boston.
If you find yourself in the area with a bit of time, stop by. You can get a so-so cup of coffee or a pretty good cup of tea at the Map Room Cafe next to this beautiful place.
