Rosler Shopping Trolley - Perfect for Walkers

Img_2162_version_2_1 Back in early May I decided that I the shopping carts, backpacks, and reusable bags I'd been using to shop where not the right solution for the upcoming farmers' market season.

Like most people who walk their purchases home, I limited what I could buy to what I could carry.

I'd seen and admired the Rolser carts that friends used. (Before I bought one, I didn't realize that these are not called shopping carts but are referred to as shopping trolleys. Doesn't that sound very proper and very British?)

But, I knew they were expensive and didn't know exactly how well they worked. I began to survey the folks who owned them. The reviews were all raves so I opened the market season with a new, bright red trolley.

Each week I load it up, both at farmers' market and supermarket and walk home with my Rolser following along like an obedient pup.

It happily cruises along on brick sidewalks, over tree roots, across grass and up and down stairs. After a summer of use I'm thrilled. I'll also admit that over the years I've spent more on wheeling, shopping devices that didn't work, than I ever did for this one.

In the photo above is Bob White of Charles Street Supply showing off my cart. The Beacon Hill store is the local source for Rolser Trollies. On their site, this is the official description of the model I purchased.

"Rolser Mountain Original (MNT)

The classic Rolser model, climb the heights of fashion with the Mountain Original. Easy to use, original, modern, stylish and sporty designer shopping trolleys! With increased height and capacity and a new flap with inside pocket. Exclusive Spanish design, colours and fabrics. Outside pocket with zip. Another smaller pocket inside the flap for your purse. Double drawstring fastening for maximum safety. This trolley is not suitable for anyone under 5ft."

Here are a few things that they don't mention.

  • It stands up by itself when you need both hands for shopping.
  • You can take the fabric off and use it as a small hand truck to bring home large boxes within the 40 pound limit.
  • It folds for storage.

Once you have one, you'll find other uses. I've used it to haul around my photo equipment and lugged a full cart of clothes to the donation bin with it. This weekend I plan to fill it with magazines to take down to the recycling room in our building.

And, it has saved money for me when I use a Zipcar. I take it with me on the car trip, and quite a few times I've made it back to the parking space without extending my reservation (or paying a fine) because having the trolley means I can wheel home my purchases without stopping at my building to drop off what I bought.

If you're reading this elsewhere in the world, Charles Street Supply will deliver and you can order from them on line from the link below.

I've also provided the official company site and another site that both carry more styles.

(EDIT: The broken link mentioned in the comment below is fixed. The one above should work now. The reason we often use long detailed links is to enable readers to copy and paste when a link won't work or edit it themselves when one changes.

Thanks to everyone who lets us know when something isn't working. We appreciate the feedback.)
